I AM THE BLUEBIRD

“I Am The Bluebird” is the new indie-feature from writer/director Thomas Verrette. It began as his senior film at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and as the film developed, it quickly turned into something much greater. Taking almost three years to complete, the film marks an amazing achievement for the young director, and proves his status as a filmmaker to keep a close eye on.

A brief synopsis:

Awakening from an experimental surgery performed by his neurologist father, Ethan Galloway, re-enters his life suffering from temporary memory loss. His past slowly becomes familiar, though not without a few changes. His dad has remarried, his mom has become an alcoholic, and his sister is dating his best friend. When Ethan finds a photograph of himself on the beach with a beautiful girl whom he can not recall, he begins a journey to fill in the missing pieces of his past despite the apparent efforts of his friends and family to keep it from him.

“I Am the Bluebird” plays out like a taut mystery. As Ethan learns more about his past he questions whether his memories are real or imagined, and whether his friends and family are trying to protect him or are covering up a more sinister truth. It is also a portrait of a fractured family, shattered by tragedy and needing to heal in a way that no surgery can bring about.
